1970s Frank Lloyd Wright Laminate Countertop Renovation

In September 2023, we wrapped up a unique countertop resurfacing project in Prescott Country Club—one that blended mid‑century character with fresh, modern durability. The home featured original 1970s laminate inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright–era design, and the goal was to preserve that vintage charm while giving the surfaces a clean, long‑lasting update.

The large L‑shaped sink countertop was resurfaced in place, a careful process that began with scuffing the existing laminate to ensure proper adhesion. The remaining countertops and shelves were fully remade in the shop before installation. Working on site at Ann’s home, we cut, glued, and trimmed each piece of laminate to fit perfectly. It was a meticulous job with plenty of tight corners and details to navigate, but the results were worth the effort.

For the new surface, the homeowner selected Wilsonart Retro Renovation Creme Caramel in a matte finish—a warm, period‑appropriate choice that complements the home’s architecture while offering the performance of modern laminate.

A tricky project, a beautiful finish, and a great example of how thoughtful countertop resurfacing can bring vintage design back to life.
